Socialising in the Snow
VAL THORENS
Paying for internet access is so annoying... especially when you lose your net ticket!

... today is my last day skiing! But I wanted to let you know a little more about this holiday while I was actually here!

I'm here with my friend Katie, and we have 2 really nice roommates Maria and Tony (from Greece). They're snowboarding and have really kewl gear... and are about as bruised as I am so I don't feel too uncoordinated! In the evenings here there's been tons of events organised by the university group, so there has been close to 200 people out each night - there was a traffic light party (where the colour you wear depends on if you are single or not!), a beach party, a garbage-bag-and-tinfoil party... and tonight is "back to school" - and yes, I do have a british school tie!

Last night was interesting - about 150 of us paid €30 for a fondue dinner up on the slopes, and then we skiied back in the dark with our way lit by flaming torches. Luckily I knew the slope really well, the problem was that many of the people carrying the torches had drank quite a few drinks...!! But consuming alcohol seems to be the #1 thing on the British student agenda - which I suppose isn't too different than Australian students - I guess I'm experiencing the crazy parties that my friends and I largely avoided at UWA.

So although you all know I love the dancefloor stuff, skiing and stopping in beautiful places for chocolat chaud and tarte aux pomme is definitely the highlight - it's nice to have met so many interesting and friendly people too...

So today - skiing, buying ingredients for fancy dinner, finishing postcard writing, more skiing, returning skiis, tidying room (arghh the hardest task of all), cooking fancy dinner, then parting all night at some random pubs and clubs!

... at least I'll have all Sunday to sleep before I get back to work.

Take care & keep well people!

Hi Sam,

I'm another one of those drunken students you were in Val T with! Drop us a line sometime and come see us in Guildford soon. It was great meeting you, you are the most friendly and optimistic person around! Keep it up!
