Wroclaw By Night
WROCLAW

It's interesting to see how much Poland has changed over the last 2 years. Wroclaw seems to have more bars and cafes, has better lighting of street monuments, and easier to find hostel accommodation - although some of this may be due to travelling in peak season!

Some of the main buildings have been restored - their main cathedral is currently being cleaned, and the university building has been improved too. After eating some Perogi and Bigos, I went into a very fancy cathedral next to the university - amazing decorations. I ended up sitting on the banks of the river, and drifted off for an hour or so... night trains are not good for the body clock!

I met up with Aleksandra and her boyfriend John last night (or should I say Ola and Jan??? Grr tis weird when you first learn english-ified names!) I originally met Aleksandra in a restaurant in Krakow in 2002, and we were planning to see some sites together but it didn't work out. It was great to meet up with her again after 2 years. After starting the evening by eating chocolate mousse, we cruised around the old town at night, and went into *every* jazz club (and there were a few!) but none had live music!!! We ended up sitting next to a fish-bowl-porthole-thing and eating more sweet stuff :-) mmmm.

I have 1hr to tidy and check out. There's enough time for me to go to the train station, dump my bag, and go into the centre of town again. There's a tower in an old church which supposedly has great views (although is grey today), and was closed 2 years ago. And a reccommended coffee shop :-) Then it's back to Krakow to party tonight (and hopefully see some jazz!)

I'm not sure about visiting the Matulewicz's! They said I should come Monday but I can only make it Sunday (to Bielsko Biala)! If I don't zip up there on Sunday then I'll have 2 days in Krakow, which will be OK. Will be a bit of a rush back to Hungary though - about 11 hours on a night train!

:-)

Hi Sam,

Great to hear that you finally made it to Prague and have been able to catch up with friends in Poland. Looking forward to catching you tomorrow night, mate.
