Hello!
OK... I have to tell you about the best night of my travels so far.... it started off with
Ooh Aah
I wanna know-o-o-oh (o-o-oh) if you'll be my girl
eins zwei drei vier fünf sechs sieben acht
[start again!]
at Hofbrauhaus! It seemed to be the only song that we all knew -the german ppl, and us tourists (on our table americans, aussies, canadians and one austrian :-) ) and a chinese table... so we were drinking litres of beer, and singing, standing on chairs, drinking smuggled in fire water from the germans (who would've been in their 40s or 50s)... it was crazy! We stayed until closing time!
Then.... we went to KunstParkOst... ??? It's this nightclubbing district... we were supposed to meet Susanna (the Austrian)'s friends but they were in a club that was full! So we went into this club "babylon"
Wow!
The event was called "deep space night"... it was in a huuuuge wearhousey thing.... tons of atmosphere and room to dance... laser lights in synch with the music... and then...
Darth vader and a bunch of stormtroopers walked in! It was amazing! Like... they all had laser guns, and the sound was synched to these starwars-style CG movies they were running, and then the acting from the stormtroopers... I have some photos and they turned out OK... you can see darth standing in front of this swirly light thingy saying "deep space night" in a deep-voice-german-accent... was quite bizarre but was kewl!
So we got back to the hostel about 4am. The next day we went to look at some museums... twas Sunday so they were free! there was this outside exhibit of recoloured satellite photos that was pretty good... I took this kewl piccy of Susanna, me and brian all pointing to our countries on this world map satellite photo-ey thing...
Sunday night we went back to the beer halls! We went to Augustiner to eat, and it was really cheap! Much cheaper than hofbrau and good food... then we went to hofbrau for a little bit to soak up more touristy german atmosphere. We were intending to finish up at an irish pub, but Zac couldn't remember the way there, and I thought that it was a train trip away... in the end we all just went back to the hostel pub.
Susanna left monday morning to go to a conference, the americans left for somewhere, and Max and Brian headed off to tackle Salzburg mountains :-) I was left to explore alone (again) and headed off to the olympic site. It was quite different to look at some modern (dated... it was for the 72 olympics) architecture... not that *nice* exactly, but OK. There's supposedly a pretty good view if you go up the approx 200m tower, but I didn't feel like paying to go up 200 when I'd gone up 1400 a week or so ago for free! At night on Monday, I dragged some ppl out of the hostel to go to hofbrau (again!) arggg so much beer. then rushed back to catch my 11pm train.
OK... continue reading in the next entry!
Posted by Sam at October 21, 2002 11:45 PMHello Sam,We forgot to say that you don't have to answer any e-mails from us. You have enough to do. We've bought a DVD player and now pa is trying to work out how to make films on CD. Much swearing coming from the computer room! We need your help. In a few year's time when you come home perhaps. Take care, love Gran and Pa.
P.S. Lesley says hello too.
