FreeZZZZing in Zakopane!

Hello!

Yes guys, I know you're getting tons of messages at the moment... beforehand it was because I had tons to say about my 6 day tour, then it was to kill time in Warsaw... now it will be because it's free! Yepp they have 3 internet-able computers here which I'll make sure I get full use of :-)

My talk is tomorrow! I should have checked the website earlier then I would've known. At least I get it over and done with early and then can watch, learn, think & relax afterwards. You can check out the schedule (and the freaky sounding papers other ppl are presenting!) at http://www.zts.ia.polsl.gliwice.pl/iccvg/conferenceprogram.html.

The night train was pretty annoying. It was just me and this elderly lady to a booth (which can hold up to 8) so we had tons of space, but it was pretty bumpy and noisy. I slept probably for about 4 or 5 of the 8-ish hr trip. It was 3 degrees today in Zakopane! This time of year it's normally around 15 to 20 so it was a bit of a shock. The lady started putting on tons of layers of clothes, so I thought I'd better try the same thing. I walked out of the train at about 5:45, and nothing was open until 8am! I just wandered around (after realising it was too far to walk to the hotel), then found a cafe at 8 and stayed till about 9:30, eating first a cold brekky (coffee and cake), then scrambled eggs and sausages (not WITH sausages, but mixed together)... I know the wrong order, but the waitress didn't understand when I asked if they had hot breakfast (they did just 10 m away at a different counter!). Ended up talking to a nice older polish man, then caught a taxi to the hotel. I was still tons of hours early, but was able to help out with some admin stuff and sleep a bit (and of course eat!). Supposedly Friday is our tour-the-tatras day so hopefully it warms up by then!

Actually the food here is a lil strange. The big meal is at lunchtime (or, rather late lunchtime between 1-5pm) then there is just a small-ish (usually cold) supper at around 7. The food's been pretty tastey and fresh so far. The room is really nice too. I'm sharing with a polish guy called Martin.

Okay I'll leave you there. I'll tell you how my talk went tomorrow, and upload photos ( I can upload tons... and resize them myself now! )

Zai Jian!

Sambo - good luck with the presentation. Hope it goes well. It looks like a lot of "interesting" stuff for you computer boffin people. Also a good opportunity for networking. Keep your eyes and ears open!

Saturday looks like MY sort of day. A trip to the mountains. Just what I could do with at the moment.

Have you sorted out the visa thing for the Czech Republic yet. It would be a pity to miss out on that part of the trip.

Keep the posts coming. It's great to see you having such a ball.

Love
Dad
