Leaving London

My Last day in London tonight!

I've met so many kewl ppl *hello guys!* and seen tons of stuff. Having said that, the cost of food and entertainment is killing me! (I'm averaging $100/day at the moment!). That's going to have to change when I'm in Europe, or I'll be having a *really* short holiday!

Next I go to Scotland! I'm hopping on a bus at 10:30 tonight and I arrive early tomorrow in Edinburgh. I'm going to buy a return bus ticket to Glasgow from there, and hopefully go through Motherwell (where some of my ancestors were from) and then hang in Glasgow for 1 night. I'll be back in Edinburgh on Fri nite, cos on Sat morning my tour leaves at 8:15am! It's called "The Compass Buster" and goes for 6 days. I'll type the description for you:

A spectacular adventure through the West Cost, far North West Highlands and the Isle of Skye. Leave the tourist hordes behind and get out there amongst some of the world's most spectacular scenery.

We'll go Monster Hunting by Loch Ness, taste some excellent whisky and stay in a Haunted Highland Castle! Six awsome days, the spectacular Highlands, likeminded travellers - an adventure you'll never forget!

Never forget... I hope so! It's costing me approx $500AUD to do the tour (inc busses to and from Scotland), which is OK, I suppose, but it doesn't include accomodation or food. For the scottish readers in the audience (Hi Gran & Pa, Auntie Isobel & Auntie Elsie) I'm going from Edinburgh through Stirling, Oban, Glencoe, Fort William, Kyleakin, Skye, Ullapool, Carbisdale Castle, Loch Ness, Inverness, Pitlochry and then back to Edinburgh!

Tonight I might go to jazz at St Martin in the Fields. It starts at 8, and my bus leaves at 10:30, so I should be able to listen for about an hour or so. Victoria station (where the busses are) is pretty centeral (well, centeral-south ish). Hope I can sleep on the bus!

Okay 10 mins more-ish. I'll write some more!

Last night I went back to the WalkAbout again, this time with friends from Hyde Park hostel... I have a few photos... I'll put up some group shots of my friends from both hostels up soon!

It wasn't as psycho or packed as Sat... but was OK... There was all this disco stuff... and "disco Matti" and "disco Shan" were getting down :-) We went in cos I thought they said "free", but really they said "three" (pounds entry). So that was annoying!

Pretty cheap for a club though. Normal entry fees are £5-£8 (times by 3 to convert to $AUD).

Other goods I've payed for:

£1.50ish for a coffee
£3ish for a beer (£1.50 during Hyde pk happy hour!)
£12.50 Beau & Sam's fancy dinner (ouch!)
£4 Burger King Whopper Combo! (but it had free sauce sachets!)
£4.10 travelcard every day... lets me use all busses, trains and underground trains in zone 1 and 2 (I've never even gone to zone 2! But earl's court bordered it) until 4am... or later? The whole day anyway. Night busses are kewl too!
£10 Madamme Tuossauds
£5 shakespeare (best £5 I've spent)
£0 Galleries and Museams (which is really kewl!)

Okay that's my 10 mins up... later! :-)

Hello Sam, i have been enjoying your mail and would love to be doing the next part of your trip.
I'm sure you will enjoy the scenery--it is a favourite part of Scotland for me.It sounds like the cost of living is still high over there.Do what we did last time, eat at places like the YMCA.Enjoy all you new experiences.Love Aunt Isobel.

Dear Sam, When you are in Oban, try to take the steamer to Iona. You will not be sorry.
